SoL Harris/Day Architecture is proud to announce the addition of Kurt Goodenberger, hired to fill a brand new position on the Harris/Day team, VP of Business Development. A graduate of University of Cincinnati with a degree in Architectural Technology, Goodenberger is active in various community and business organizations, including Canton Rotary and Mount Vernon Nazarene University Foundation Board. He is also a graduate of Leadership Stark County.

 

The Stark County District Library has received a four-star rating from the Library Journal Index of Public Libraries, a new public library rating system. The Stark County District Library’s four-star rating identifies it as one of the best library systems in the United States as only 256 libraries of the 7,115 public libraries that were evaluated received star ratings.

 

Stark State College recently named three veteran educators to positions of academic dean. Carrilyn Long,was named dean of public service technologies, Lada Gibson-Shreve, Ph.D, was named dean of general studies, and Glenda Zink, Ed.D was named dean of the business technologies division.

Advertising and public relations agency Innis Maggiore announced the firm’s latest hiring and promotion. Casey Tucci-Kaufman has joined Innis Maggiore as media planner/buyer and Justin Allen was promoted from senior web designer to creative director web. In other Innis Maggiore news, best-selling author and father of positioning, Jack Trout, has dedicated his new book, In Search of the Obvious, to Dick Maggiore, president and CEO for the agency.

 

Mercy Medical Center recently appointed Aqeel A. Sandhu, M.D., F.A.C.S., medical director of cardiothoracic surgery. Dr. Sandhu is a Harvard-trained Cardiothoracic Surgeon who is board certified in both surgery and thoracic surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

 

Rose Sloat and Darryl Doane, of The Learning Service, Ltd.,were honored as a 2008 Sapphire Award winner at the Inscape Publishing MindLab Conference in Washington D.C. Sapphire Award status is based on purchases of instrumented learning assessments and support materials from Inscape Publishing.Those materials are integrated into client solutions, focusing on leadership, management, team-building, exceptional customer service and other employee-development initiatives.

 

The Employment Source is embarking on a project that will help local employers tackle the very difficult issue of worker turnover. Funded by a $494,000 grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Worker Retention Demonstration Project will focus on increasing worker retention rates for area businesses while addressing what is considered the foremost retention issue, lack of appropriate soft skills. The Medicine Center and Medicine Shoppe Pharmacies in Stark and Tuscarawas Counties, have announced two promotions. Brad White, R.Ph. has been promoted to vice president of the company. White has been with the Medicine Shoppe/Medicine Center Pharmacies for 20 years, serving as a pharmacist and store manager of the New Philadelphia pharmacy. Nancy Wharmby, CPA, has been promoted to executive vice president. Wharmby has been with the company for 17 years, serving as controller and human resources director.

 

WRL Advertising has announced the promotion of senior copywriter Joe Clifford Faust to the position of PR director. He has been serving as interim PR director since November of 2008. Recent additions to WRL staff include Lindsay Menapace, account executive, and Sean Kibler, network administrator and junior web programmer. Menapace joins WRL from WHBC radio where she was a member of their sales department and news department. Kibler is a 2008 graduate of Stark State College of Technology, where he majored in Computer Network Administration.

 

Junior Achievement of East Central Ohio began its annual Investment Drive campaign, and hopes to reach its goal of $87,000 raised during the month of April, Financial Literacy Month.
