Memorial honoring Chuck Webster unveiled downtown
A memorial in honor of developer Charles “Chuck” Webster was recently unveiled on the northwest corner of the Millennium Centre. The late president of REM Commercial was instrumental in many downtown Canton development projects.
“Chuck loved downtown – he was the downtown Canton guy. It was the best location for his memorial,” said Cindy Webster, Chuck’s wife. “We walked around downtown looking for just the right place. The Millennium Centre was a project of his and it seemed like the perfect place.”
The memorial is just as she envisioned – simple, but powerful. A place where one can be comfortable sitting and reflecting but somewhere that is in the heart of downtown, where one can enjoy the energy of Canton.
When it came to the inscription for the memorial, she had some brainstorming help from dear friends and together they arrived at:
His accomplishments were many and his personal success impressive, but Chuck’s greatest joy was not in achieving, but in giving. To his family he gave his love, to his friends his loyalty and to the community his time and talent. To remember him is to honor him.
The project was funded by generous donations from friends, family and the community at large and designed by Canterbury Enterprises with Cindy’s input.
“If you didn’t know him, you might think ‘wow, what a great guy’ and if you did know him, well, you’ll likely think ‘wow, what great memories I have’,” she said. “I’m so proud, I just know that he’s smiling, humbly, that someone thought enough to do it.”
