The 2009 Blues Festival, presented by the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce will be held June 19 and 20 in downtown Canton. Scheduled to perform at the annual festival are blues legends Johnny Winter and Taj Mahal.
For over 30 years, Johnny Winter has been a guitar hero without equal. Signing to Columbia records in 1969, Johnny immediately laid out the blueprint for his fresh take on classic blues a prime combination for the legions of fans just discovering the blues via the likes of Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton. Throughout the ’70s and ’80s, Johnny was the unofficial torchbearer for the blues, championing and aiding the careers of his idols like Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker. Composer, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Taj Mahal is one of the most prominent and influential figures in late 20th century blues and roots music. Though his career began more than four decades ago with American blues, he has broadened his artistic scope over the years to include music representing virtually every corner of the world. The Blues Festival is FREE to all attendees, but V.I.P. membership passes are available.
