Ron Becker elected Canton Chamber board chairman; five new board directors named

Ronald D. Becker, CEO, Hilscher-Clarke Electric Co., has been elected chairman of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce board of directors for 2009. Newly elected members of the board are: Michael S. Armbrester, division manager, Marathon Petroleum Company LLC, Jerry  Gilin, vice president, global training and development, Diebold, Jason F. Haupt,  director/shareholder, Krugliak, Wilkins, Griffiths & Dougherty Co., L.P.A.,Terrence L. Jones, general manager of  Canton Oldtimers Activity Center and John A. Murphy, Jr., attorney, Day Ketterer.

 

Ronald D. Becker is currently serving his second term on the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce board and is the CEO of Hilscher-Clarke Electric Company, an electrical contracting and engineering firm located in downtown Canton since 1926. An electrical engineer by trade, he has been with the company for the past 24 years. He is a member of numerous civic organizations, including the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee, Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce Education Committee and School Funding Task Force, Stark State Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology Advisory Committee, United Way Account Executive & volunteer, Sisters of Charity Foundation Board and Habitat for Humanity volunteer.

 

A native of Martinsburg, West Virginia, Michael S. Armbrester received his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Purdue University and completed the Indiana University Executive Education program. Armbrester joined Ashland Petroleum Company in 1997 as a technical services engineer at the company’s Catlettsburg, Kentucky refinery and progressed through various supervisory and managerial positions with Ashland. After the company entered into a joint venture with Marathon Oil in 1998, Armbrester transferred to the Robinson, Illinois refinery where he served as division manager for three years, followed by six years as the division manager of  Marathon’s refinery in Texas City, Texas. He was actively involved with the Chamber of Commerce and United Way during his assignment in Texas. He transferred to Canton in February of 2007 and currently serves as the division manager for the Canton Refinery.

 

After graduating with a degree in electronic engineering, Jerry Gilin served 24 years with Konica Minolta Business Products, most recently as the director of Corporate Education. He joined Diebold in March of 2002 and assumed positions of increasing responsibility within the training and support services organization. In January of 2007, Gilin was promoted to vice president, Global Training and Development. His responsibilities include the strategic oversight of Diebold’s Global Training and Organizational Development efforts.

 

Jason F. Haupt is a director/shareholder of Krugliak, Wilkins, Griffiths & Dougherty Co., L.P.A. His practice is focused in the areas of health care, professional and general corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, business planning and real estate law. Haupt received his bachelor’s degree in finance and marketing from Miami University and his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law. Haupt worked as a summer associate in an Atlanta, Georgia law firm and interned with the Guilford County Prosecutor’s Office in Greensboro, North Carolina. He is active in many community events including the Jackson-Belden FoodFest. He is a member of the Green Chamber, serves on the board of the Quest Foundation and is a graduate of the 20th Class of Stark County Leadership. Haupt is a member of the Stark County Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association and is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association.

 

Terrence L. Jones currently serves as general manager of the Canton Oldtimers Activity Center and was former constituent liaison of the City of Canton under the Mayor Janet Weir Creighton Administration. Jones graduated from McKinley High School and attended Grambling State University in Grambling, La. He serves on several boards, including Stark County Community Action Agency, Canton Academy School, Community Services of Stark County and Greater Martin Luther King Commission. He is a member of NAACP, Buckeye Council Boys Scout Reach Committee, Canton City Schools Harvard Executive Leadership Team and Greater Bethel Apostolic Church. Jones was a graduate of the 20th Class of Leadership Stark County and of the Government Leadership Academy’s inaugural class. He is the founder and director of S.T.E.P. (Students Taking Educational Paths), a non-profit organization committed to expose, educate, entertain, and enrich the lives of youth. He is also the producer of the annual community-wide Dr. Martin Luther King Talent Celebration. Jones has been honored with professional achievement awards throughout his career, most recently receiving the St. Paul AME Church’s 10th annual Black History Month award.

 

Well respected as a successful trial attorney, John A. Murphy, Jr. is a member of Day Ketterer law firm and chairman of the Firm’s Litigation Practice Group. Named among The Best Lawyers in America 2008, Murphy received his B.A. in accounting from the University of Toledo in 1978 and his Juris Doctorate from the Tulane University School of Law in 1981. He has 27 years of trial experience handling complex litigation matters in state and federal courts for clients in the nsurance, banking, construction, and real estate industries. Throughout his professional career, Murphy has had multiple Ohio Supreme Court appearances and countless reported decisions from the Courts of Appeal. Murphy’s leadership in the community is significant with over two decades of service on local boards and organizations to advance economic development and raise awareness about health care issues in Stark County. He has served as a board member of the Downtown Canton Land Bank Corp., the Canton Ballet, H.O.P.E. Inc., the Stark County Health Care Coalition and Glenmoor Country Club. In addition, he has volunteered on committees for the United Way, Boy Scouts of America, the Canton YMCA and the Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival.
