Throughout the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce’s 95-year history, we have seen a tremendous transformation in the business milieu. Our economy here in Stark County and around the nation has adapted and evolved over the years and we are in new territory when it comes to the scope of global impact we feel here at home. Our upcoming annual dinner speaker, U.S. Ambassador Timken, recently concluded his ambassadorship to Germany and returns to his hometown to share with us his point of view on international commerce and the future of the global economy that will impact each of us.
Despite the unfortunate economic condition upon us, our Chamber president & CEO, Dennis Saunier, the executive management team and staff of the Chamber, along with the Chamber board, are all dedicated to the mission of advancing business and developing community in Stark County, as evidenced by the considerable efforts and accomplishments achieved in 2008.
Last year, we saw progress in economic development projects, estimated at almost $1 billion in capital investments and growth through 2010. The Chamber made strides in business collaboration in government and education sectors. We opened direct lines of communication with area manufacturers to garner an understanding about the future of jobs in this region. Chamber events exposed thousands of businesses and community residents alike to an incredible mix of networking, professional development and downtown community events. In short, we’re devoted to making the best of the unfortunate circumstances brought on by this economic condition.
2009 will be a very trying year for our membership and for our community as a whole, and we can only hope that the firm foundation of business and economic development projects – the road we paved in early-to-mid 2008 – will be brought to fruition in 2009 sooner rather than later.
I am looking forward to the challenges ahead, and to working with Denny, his Chamber management and staff, our strong, diverse Chamber board and the innumerable community volunteers. In our 95th year, we will continue to be proponents of the advancement of the economic, industrial, professional, cultural and civic welfare of Stark County. It is truly our privilege to serve you.
Sincerely,
Ronald D. Becker
